How the nine tags divide a composition of 31
At 31 companies, this composition is grouped under nine applicability tags, and the group sizes differ sharply. Nearshore for the EU is the largest at 15 of the 31, while Fast onboarding is the smallest, held by exactly one company. A published onboarding time of 14 days or less with a source is a narrow bar, and only QATestLab publishes one that clears it.
Two companies meet the criteria for both nearshore tags at once. ScienceSoft and a1qa each record a delivery location in the EU, EEA, Ukraine, Georgia, Serbia or Moldova region and a separate one in Canada, Mexico, Central America or South America, so both nearshore groups list them. No other company on this page carries both nearshore tags.
Where team-model tags overlap with automation
The Embedded team model group holds eight companies, and four of them, DeviQA, a1qa, QAwerk and ImpactQA, also carry Automation first. The other four, Testlio, TestFort, QualityMinds and Ubertesters, offer a dedicated team engagement without a published automation case study on file, so the automation tag does not follow the team-model tag automatically even within this narrower group.
Security focus shows a similar split. Four of its five companies, ScienceSoft, DeviQA, QAwerk and SHIFT ASIA, also carry Automation first. QATestLab is the exception: it reaches Security focus without the automation tag, and instead pairs it with Performance engineering and Device lab coverage. Counting across the full composition, QATestLab and DeviQA are the only two companies that carry five applicability tags each, more than any other company in this composition.
The crowdtesting group stands apart
The five companies in Crowdtesting at scale, Global App Testing, Applause, UNGUESS, Ubertesters and Digivante, share almost no tags with the rest of the page. None of the five carries Automation first, Performance engineering or Security focus. Three of the five pair crowdtesting with exactly one other tag, Nearshore for the EU: Global App Testing, Applause and UNGUESS. Ubertesters carries two more, Embedded team model and Device lab coverage. Digivante is the only one of the five with no second tag on this page, its listing here resting on the crowdtesting criterion alone.
How this ranking was put together
Membership is computed from the profile, not chosen: companies appear here when they list Usability testing among their services, as their own profile states. Position in a ranking cannot be bought. Paid options are limited to the extended profile, labelled sponsor slots and lead forms, and none of them affect tags or order.
The table compares the fields that decide this axis: frameworks, case studies, published rates, plus the number of verified reviews on external platforms. Rates, minimum project size and onboarding time carry the source they came from next to the value.
- Nearshore for the EU: At least one delivery location in the EU or the EEA, or in Ukraine, Georgia, Serbia or Moldova.
- Automation first: Test automation is offered as a service, and at least one published case study reports a coverage or regression time metric.
- Embedded team model: The dedicated team engagement model is offered, and at least one published case study.
- Nearshore for the USA: At least one delivery location in Canada, Mexico, Central America or South America.
- Crowdtesting at scale: The crowdtesting engagement model is offered, and a published tester pool of 10,000 people or more, with a source.
- Device lab coverage: A published device lab of 100 real devices or more, with a source.
- Performance engineering: Performance testing is offered as a service, and at least one published case study reports a throughput or latency metric.
- Security focus: Security testing is offered, together with either penetration testing or a verified ISO/IEC 27001 certificate, and at least one published case study.
- Fast onboarding: A published onboarding time of 14 days or less, with a source.
The criteria for this axis are on the methodology page, together with field definitions and the rule for editorial order. Changes of order are recorded in the changelog.
Questions
- Usability testing and accessibility testing sound similar. Does this catalog treat them as the same service?
- They are two different services in this catalog. This page groups companies that record usability testing, which studies how easily people use a product and reports what they struggled with. Accessibility testing is judged against a written standard: the Accessibility specialists tag only applies once a company publishes a case study reporting a WCAG conformance metric. Usability testing carries no equivalent metric, since a session is judged against observed behavior rather than a fixed specification.
- Does a usability testing listing say whether the underlying sessions are moderated, remote, or run from a physical lab?
- It says none of that. Whether a company runs moderated sessions, recruits participants under a screening plan, works from a physical lab, or tests remotely without a moderator present is a detail no field in this catalog captures. The profile records one line: usability testing is among the company's services. A buyer comparing two profiles with that same line is comparing two vendors whose methods have not yet been described anywhere in the catalog.
- Some companies on this page also run crowdtesting at scale. Is that the same activity as usability testing?
- No, they serve different purposes. Crowdtesting sends a product out to a large, unscreened pool of testers who run it on many real devices and report what breaks, which is built for device coverage and defect volume. Usability research instead asks whether a specific kind of person can complete a specific task, drawing on participants chosen to match that person and an observer who watches where they hesitate. A company can carry both services, and the catalog records them as separate lines rather than as one activity under two names.
- The catalog records a headquarters country and delivery locations for each company. Does either tell a buyer what language a usability session would run in?
- Neither one does. Headquarters records where a company is registered, and delivery location records where it runs work; neither field carries a language. A usability session is normally conducted live in the language the product's users speak, and staffing a moderator or facilitator for that language is an engagement-level decision made per project, not a company-wide attribute stored in a profile. Confirming the working language for a specific study is a question for the engagement itself, since no field here answers it in advance.

Every fact about a company comes from a listed source. A field without a source stays empty. A certificate counts as confirmed only when a registry, certificate or auditor report backs it; a certificate the company only claims about itself is published separately, under that label. Vendors can request a correction at hello@qa-rating.com. A correction is applied when it comes with a public source.
