Automation first leads the group, and two other tags only partly overlap with it

Automation first applies to 17 of the 45 companies in this edtech list, the largest of the ten applicability tags on this axis. The tag combines two conditions: test automation offered as a service, and at least one published case study reporting a coverage or regression-time metric. Security focus and Performance engineering are the next tags by size, six companies each, and neither tracks the automation group in full. Of the six companies carrying Security focus, four (DeviQA, QA Madness, QAwerk and SHIFT ASIA) also carry Automation first, while the other two (Qualysec and QATestLab) reach the security condition without a qualifying automation case study. Performance engineering shows the same split: four of its six companies (QualityLogic, BugRaptors, Abstracta and SHIFT ASIA) also carry Automation first, and the remaining two (QATestLab and PFLB) do not.

Nearshore tags map delivery geography, and headquarters follow a different pattern

Nearshore for the EU applies to 16 of the 45 companies in this list, covering at least one delivery location in the EU, the EEA, Ukraine, Georgia, Serbia or Moldova. Nearshore for the USA applies to 8 of the 45, covering delivery in Canada, Mexico, Central America or South America. Only two companies, a1qa and GlobalStep, carry both tags at once, so delivery declared on both sides of the Atlantic through this specific pair of tags stays rare in this composition. Headquarters follow a different pattern: 13 of the 45 companies are based in the United States and 11 in India, with the remaining 21 spread across Vietnam, Canada, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Estonia, Cyprus, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Romania, Portugal and the Netherlands. A US or Indian headquarters does not place a company in either nearshore group on its own, because the two tags track delivery locations, a field the profile records separately from where a company is based.

Three tags reach exactly one company, each behind a specific published figure

Three of the ten applicability tags on this axis apply to exactly one company each, and each condition names a specific published figure rather than a general capability. Fast onboarding requires an onboarding time of 14 days or less with a source, and one company in this list, QATestLab, publishes one. Accessibility specialists requires accessibility testing offered as a service plus a case study reporting a conformance metric, and one company, Vervali Systems, has both on record. Crowdtesting at scale requires the crowdtesting engagement model plus a published tester pool of 10,000 people or more with a source, and one company, Ubertesters, meets it. A single-company tag here marks a published number on one field; other companies in the list may do similar work without a source that clears the tag's threshold.

Certificates split between one standard and one accreditation family

A verified certificate is on record for 5 of the 45 companies in this list. One of the five, SHIFT ASIA, holds ISO/IEC 27001; the other four, Blaze Information Security, Packetlabs, VSEC and Zoonou, hold a CREST accreditation. None of the four CREST holders carries the Security focus tag in this composition, so their certificate sits outside the six-company group that tag names. The Signs a BAA / GDPR DPA field is filled in for only 1 of the 45. Client stage is recorded for 16 of the 45. Named clients appear in the profiles of 35 of the 45 companies, well above the other two fields. These counts describe how many profiles carry a value in each field: an unset field records the absence of a published answer, not a fact about the company.

How this ranking was put together

Membership is computed from the profile, not chosen: companies appear here when they list Education among the industries they work in, as their own profile states. Position in a ranking cannot be bought. Paid options are limited to the extended profile, labelled sponsor slots and lead forms, and none of them affect tags or order.

The table compares the fields that decide this axis: certificates, case studies, team size, plus the number of verified reviews on external platforms. Rates, minimum project size and onboarding time carry the source they came from next to the value.

  • Automation first: Test automation is offered as a service, and at least one published case study reports a coverage or regression time metric.
  • Nearshore for the EU: At least one delivery location in the EU or the EEA, or in Ukraine, Georgia, Serbia or Moldova.
  • Embedded team model: The dedicated team engagement model is offered, and at least one published case study.
  • Nearshore for the USA: At least one delivery location in Canada, Mexico, Central America or South America.
  • Performance engineering: Performance testing is offered as a service, and at least one published case study reports a throughput or latency metric.
  • Security focus: Security testing is offered, together with either penetration testing or a verified ISO/IEC 27001 certificate, and at least one published case study.
  • Device lab coverage: A published device lab of 100 real devices or more, with a source.
  • Accessibility specialists: Accessibility testing is offered as a service, and at least one published case study reports an accessibility conformance metric.
  • Crowdtesting at scale: The crowdtesting engagement model is offered, and a published tester pool of 10,000 people or more, with a source.
  • Fast onboarding: A published onboarding time of 14 days or less, with a source.

The criteria for this axis are on the methodology page, together with field definitions and the rule for editorial order. Changes of order are recorded in the changelog.

Questions

Which outsourced QA vendors maintain a device lab broad enough to cover the different Chromebooks, tablets and phones a school district hands to students?
The device lab field records how many real devices a company says it keeps and never which models are in it, so on its own it cannot tell a district whether the Chromebooks and low-cost tablets it issues are among them. Four companies in this composition publish a lab of 100 devices or more with a source behind the number, and that is the only device measure here resting on anything more than a claim. It still rests on a total. A district comparing shortlists opens the lab page a vendor links to and looks for the specific hardware its own students carry, since a company outside those four may test on that hardware and simply have no counted lab to point at.
If a district or platform needs a team that keeps testing through the school year instead of a single pre-launch push, which vendors run that kind of engagement in practice?
What separates an arrangement running through the school year from a single pre-launch pass is a dedicated-team engagement model paired with a published case study, and eleven companies in this composition carry both. The field records that the model is offered; how long any particular engagement lasted sits outside it, and a case study can describe the rollout alone and stop there. So the pairing narrows the list and settles nothing about the spring term. Ask a shortlisted vendor what staffing looks like in the months after go-live, and whether the same testers stay on the account across two academic terms.
Is there a way to tell which outsourced QA companies have enough staff to absorb a testing surge right before a new school year begins?
Not from headcount alone. The size band on a profile counts everyone a company employs across every account it runs, while a surge before the first week of term needs testers free in a specific two- or three-week window. Eleven companies in this composition report 501 people or more, the two largest bands recorded here, which sets a ceiling on what could be moved rather than describing what is free. The number a district actually needs is how many testers a vendor can commit inside that window, and it comes from the vendor in writing before the term starts.
Among the 45 companies covered on this page, how many currently have zero published case studies?
16 of the 45 companies in this list have no case study on record, while the remaining 29 each publish at least one. Of those 16, eight still carry a nearshore tag, which records a delivery location rather than case-study content, and the other eight carry no applicability tag on this page at all.

How to choose a vendor on this axis

Every fact about a company comes from a listed source. A field without a source stays empty. A certificate counts as confirmed only when a registry, certificate or auditor report backs it; a certificate the company only claims about itself is published separately, under that label. Vendors can request a correction at hello@qa-rating.com. A correction is applied when it comes with a public source.
